How youth can contribute to achieve SDGs?
Session Date: 20 June 2020 at 15:30 CEST
The prolonged global economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 crisis will adversely impact the efforts in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Lower incomes are pulling more people under the poverty line. Food production and distribution is disrupted. Schools were closed and virtual learning is not accessible by all. Healthcare systems started to collapse. Despite the short-term positive impact on the climate due to the reduced production and pollution, we start to see less commitment to climate action. Political and financial resources are being absorbed by the response and diverted away from achieving the agenda and climate targets.
Today more than ever, the SDGs can be the restarting scheme for a more equitable, sustainable, and inclusive future. But, what is the role of youth in this re-start?
In this panel discussion, representatives from youth European NGOs will discuss the role of youth in achieving SDGs. The session will tackle the following questions:
- What is the future of youth activities?
- What is the role of youth in the recovery from the crises?
- What should European youth do to pursue SDGs?
- How can we collaborate to achieve greater purposes?
With this session, we aim at connecting European youth to share visions and solutions for the challenges arising from the COVID-19 crisis.
