European Patent Office - Internships and Traineeships at EPO

Every year, the EPO offers a limited number of 3 to 6-month internships to students who hold the minimum requirement of a bachelor's (or equivalent level) degree.

This is a unique opportunity to discover one of the world's leading patent offices and to work in a truly international environment. Interns work side by side with our employees who tutor them throughout the internship. They carry out complex re-classification work on patent applications and receive training relating to patents and other areas of IP, and various aspects of EPO's work.

We have many different internship opportunities for different types of students. For the requirements of each program, check specific internship or traineeship pages on our website.

Opportunities for different profiles:

- Internships for science and engineering students

- Internships for patent professionals

- Internships for national judges at the EPO Boards of Appeal

- Internships for graduates in the fields of law, international relations, European affairs, economics and communication

- Other internships

The EPO makes a contribution towards living costs (on condition that they do not receive financial support from any other source). For details, check specific internship or traineeship pages on our website.
