General description
This summer, Leuven will use its energy more than ever!
We'll use it to learn all there is to know about sustainable energy, electric cars, solar panels and much more. Always wondered how to turn sunlight into the electricity that comes out of your kitchen plug? Find out here!
Not only will you learn tons, but we'll also be getting a taste of Belgium (chocolate, fries, beers, waffles...), lighting the 'Old Market' square and having fun at our own student bar. Partycipate and, cruising on our bicycles, we'll discover the Leuven way of life and many more amazing places in Belgium.

challenges of the current and the future energy system, the potential and the problems of sustainable energy production.
- Electricity grids:
basic elements, basic operations, challenges concerning integration of photovoltaics and supply of electric vehicles.
- Regulatory affairs:
European working, regulation and energy policy of the markets, the unbundling in the electricity system, 20/20/20 goals of Europe.
- Smart/Super grids:
Overview of the future of the grids: smartgrids, supergrids, HVDC+ ICT for smartgrids
- Electric Vehicles:
different types, charging modi and standards, effect on electricity grid.
- Photovoltaics:
Technology of PV and the expected (r)evolutions, current status and prospects, challenges of integrating in buildings and grid.
- Learning goals and objectives:
Your first goal is to become aware of the global problems in energy management. The main emphasis lies on the challenge of designing an electric grid. (e.g. regulating renewable energy or engineering the grid for electric vehicles).
Your second challenge is getting introduced to present and future technologies and coping with the challenges they prove.
At last you'll gain general insight by putting these evolutions in its socio-economical context.

- Selection criteria for participants: Motivation letter, answers to questions and interest in the topic. Be creative! Show us you're fun and motivated! You must know how to ride a bicycle.
Practical arrangements
All of these are covered by the event fee.
