Interactive Brokers Group (IBG), a global leader in market-making and brokerage services, is inviting individual students to participate in the fourth IB Collegiate Electronic Trading Olympiad for a chance to win individual cash prizes of US $1,000 up to US $100,000. All participants will be considered for full-time employment.
What is the IB Trading Olympiad?
- Students must create and implement real-time program trading applications. Trades must be generated by algorithms and may involve the following asset classes -- US stocks, US options, US futures, US bonds and forex -- directly accessible on Interactive Brokers direct access trading platform.
- Students will trade with US $1,000,000 in phantom money, with the same Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation (TWS) Application Program Interface (API) that professional traders use.
- Multiple programming languages are supported, including Java, C++, C, and Visual Basic.
- There is no cost to enter and participate in the Olympiad.
How to apply?
- The Olympiad is open to any undergraduate or graduate student with programming experience*.
- All applications must be submitted by Wednesday December 31, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. EST. The competition is limited to 2,000 students, with applications accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Trading will start on Monday January 12, 2009 at 12:01 a.m. EST and run for 8 weeks until Friday March 6, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Would you like to pitch your ideas to a global aerospace leader?
Then here is your chance...
Airbus is inviting teams of students from all over the world to compete for a chance to win 30,000 euros and a range of other prizes, by responding to the following challenge...
"Develop creative ideas that can shape the future of aviation and deliver a further reduction in our industry's impact on the environment."
Who can participate?
Teams made of 3 to 5 people supported by an "Intellectual Sponsor". One of the team members must be named as Team Spokesperson to receive a detailed Briefing Pack at the start of each round of the Competition.
The competition is open to College & University students from around the world studying:
- Bachelors, Masters or PhD level degrees
- Engineering, Science and Business/Humanities
- Full-time or Part-time students (as long as you are not working at Airbus!)
The Intellectual Sponsor - who is not a team member - should be any member of your university's academic staff who can support you with the structure and methodology of your project.
What the challenge involves
Registration online, choice of team name and theme
Round 1: 01/11/08 to 01/12/08
- Each team member has to complete an on-line quiz.
- Each team will upload a short 'Eco-efficiency Project Proposal'.
Round 2: 01/01/09 to 31/03/09
- Develop and submit a detailed Project Submission in English.
- Create and upload a 5 minutes video presentation to support your written work.
Round 3 - The Final: 01/01/09 to 31/03/09
- The five teams whose ideas have demonstrated the greatest potential will be invited to present to a panel of judges made up of Airbus and industry experts during the
Le Bourget Airshow in Paris in June 2009.
- The five teams, plus their Intellectual Sponsor, will then be invited to an Awards Event where the winners will be announced.
What can you gain from participating?
Airbus is offering a range of great prizes to the teams whose idea demonstrates the greatest short or long term potential to reduce the impact of the Aviation industry on
the environment.
Prizes
- First Team Prize - 30,000 euros
- Runner-up Team Prize - 15,000 euros
- Airbus Employees' Choice - 5,000 euros (from among the best Round 2 teams)
In addition, all teams participating will have the opportunity to:
- Have your project evaluated using a tool based on Airbus' own Eco-efficiency methodology, along with tips and feedback on your team-work and communication skills.
- Use the latest web 2.0 technology in your team's own online space, with regular input from Airbus and industry experts and get feedback on your proposals.
